Frequently asked questions

Why did my scan come back with low confidence / no reading?
Chrometry deliberately refuses to guess when it isn't confident in a reading — this is by design, not a bug. Low light, glare, a strip held at an angle, or a strip photographed too far away are the most common causes. Try retaking the photo in even lighting, filling the guide frame with the strip, and holding the phone steady and parallel to the strip.
How does Chrometry read the strip's colors?
It photographs your used test strip, measures each reactive pad's actual color, and compares it against a calibrated reference using CIELAB color science (the same math used in professional colorimeters) — rather than relying on you to eyeball a match against a printed chart.
Does Chrometry work with my test strip brand?
Chrometry supports a growing catalog of test kits. Check the in-app kit picker (Settings → Test Kits, or during setup) for the current list. Don't see your kit? Use "Configure Custom" to set it up manually, or email us the brand/model and we'll consider adding it.
Is my data private?
Yes — everything happens on your device. No account, no cloud upload, no analytics. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.
How do I calibrate my kit for more accurate results?
Go to Settings → Calibration. Chrometry can learn a correction from a couple of strips you've already read and corrected, which improves accuracy for your specific kit and lighting over time.
How does the free trial work?
New installs get 3 free scans or 14 days, whichever lasts longer. After that, Chrometry Premium unlocks unlimited scans and custom kit configuration — monthly, annual, or a one-time lifetime purchase.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device?
Settings → Restore Purchases. This uses Apple's App Store account, so make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you purchased with.
Is the drinking-water testing feature a substitute for a certified lab?
No. Chrometry's drinking-water readings are advisory and meant to help you understand your water day-to-day — for any safety concern (especially health-sensitive situations like infant formula or private well testing), confirm with a certified lab or your local water utility.
